Midlands Faces Freezing Weather and Snow Warning from the Met Office

The Midlands experienced overnight frosts with temperatures dropping to -2C, prompting the Met Office to issue a warning for possible snow in the coming days. Birmingham, the Black Country, and Worcestershire are expected to see subzero temperatures well into Sunday morning.

This news comes as residents grapple with rising gas and electricity bills, resorting to conserving heat as much as possible. Despite recording -2C in areas like Pershore and Cannock, the wind made it feel more like -4C, heightening the freeze.

Saturday’s weather forecast predicts wintry conditions with temperatures not surpassing 6C, and Sunday is expected to be even colder at -2C, followed by heavy rain. The Met Office suggests that the likelihood of snow increases next week.

A Met Office forecaster for the Midlands warned, “Tonight, clear skies and light winds will cause temperatures to fall below freezing, leading to frosty conditions. Cloud cover will increase from the west by dawn, with a minimum temperature of -2 °C.”

Looking ahead to the period from Wednesday, November 29, to Friday, December 8, the forecaster anticipates colder than average conditions, with a possibility of widespread snow spreading up from the south. Strong winds or gales are likely, particularly in the south, and cold, quiet periods mixed with showery episodes of rain, sleet, and hill snow are expected.

A white Christmas in Birmingham currently holds odds of 6/1 at William Hill bookmakers, with shorter odds of 4/1 for Manchester.
