Heartbreaking story of a mother-of-four who lost her husband to cancer

Mica Murphy, a mother-of-four from Bromsgrove, shares the heart-wrenching experience of watching her husband, Phil, succumb to cancer in just six months. In a poignant short film for Stand Up To Cancer, Mica recounts the devastating moment when she had to break the news to her children that their father was going to die from the disease.

The emotional film captures the children’s heartrending questions, reflecting on the future milestones their father would miss, such as not being able to witness their weddings or become a grandparent. Mica hopes that by sharing her family’s story, people will be inspired to contribute towards the next breakthrough in cancer treatment.

Phil, whom Mica describes as a brilliant, loving father, was diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer after initially mistaking the symptoms for acid reflux. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the tumors continued to grow, eventually leading to his untimely passing.
