Four Shocking Midland Restaurant Closures in 2023

2023 has been a challenging year for the hospitality industry in the West Midlands, with several beloved eateries closing their doors. The closures have come as a massive shock to diners, including the likes of Pensons, a Michelin guide restaurant in Worcestershire, and Vinoteca, a prominent spot in Birmingham city centre.

Pensons, located in the scenic village of Stoke Bliss near Tenbury Wells, had garnered glowing reviews and prestigious awards but succumbed to financial pressures. Vinoteca, known for its wines and Modern British cuisine, cited trading conditions and energy costs as reasons for its closure.

The Bun and Barrel, a highly-rated Harborne restaurant celebrated for its burgers, shut down due to a key management member falling ill. Similarly, The Karczma, a beloved Polish restaurant in Digbeth, closed after more than a decade of serving the community, citing the cost of living crisis as a major factor.
