Fatal M5 crash causes major delays near Birmingham

A collision on the M5 northbound involving a van and a lorry has resulted in the tragic death of the van driver. The incident took place between junctions 4 and 4a in Catshill, Bromsgrove, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

Despite efforts to save the victim, the van driver, who was in a critical condition, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Following the crash, extensive delays are expected during rush hour as emergency roadworks are conducted on the motorway, with closure anticipated until midday.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service expressed the challenges faced in attempting to save the driver’s life, stating, “Unfortunately, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
