Beloved Antiques Roadshow Expert Henry Sandon Dies on Christmas Day

Beloved Antiques Roadshow expert Henry Sandon has passed away at the age of 95 on Christmas morning at a care home in Malvern, Worcestershire. The son of the late expert, John Sandon, confirmed his father’s peaceful passing. Henry Sandon was appointed curator of the Dyson Perrins Museum at the Royal Worcester factory in 1967 and became a familiar face on BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow in 1979. His son described him as a “favourite uncle” to the show’s audience and noted his immense popularity in the world of antiques, particularly for his association with Royal Worcester pots and infectious personality.

John Sandon further expressed that his father brought joy to millions of viewers every Sunday evening and cited the magical TV moment when Henry discovered a rare Staffordshire pottery owl jug, affectionately known as ‘Ozzie’. Auctioneer Phillip Serrell, known for his appearances on various antiques-related shows, praised Sandon for his significant contributions to promoting antiques. The Museum of Royal Worcester also paid tribute to Sandon, acknowledging his role as curator and patron and expressing deep sorrow at his passing.

Many individuals, including museum staff and admirers, shared their heartfelt condolences and described Sandon as a truly remarkable and knowledgeable individual who made a lasting impact on the world of antiques and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
